Believable and comprehensive account

I recently read this book, having read many similar books over the last 35 years. It comes across as a very comprehensive and believable account, including his description of Hell, which is reminiscent of other books I have read, where people describe a dark place where there are entities trying to hurt and do abominable things to one another or else deeply mired in despair and suffering.
For example, George Ritchie describes in his book Return from Tomorrow where he sees a plain "apparently still somewhere in the surface of the earth ... jammed with hordes of ghostly incarnate beings... who were locked in what looked like fights to the death, writhing, punching, gouging." He saw this as Hell, yet came to realise that there was something keeping these beings there, "Perhaps ...each creature here had sought out the company of others as pride-and-hate-filled as himself, until together they formed this society of the damned". George Ritchie then came to realise that the "entire unhappy plain was hovered over by beings seemingly made of light"....I clearly saw that not one of these bickering beings on the plain had been abandoned. They were being attended, watched over, ministered to. And the equally observable fact was that none of them knew it".
A similar account is given by Angie Fenimore in her book "Beyond the Darkness" where she describes entering a "plane of darkness" following a suicide attempt where she encountered myriads of people filled with despair. It is while in this plane, that similar to Howard Storm, she became aware of the presence of light and of God once her thoughts turned to Jesus and God. She writes "Why was it that I could see God while the vacant husk of a man next to me could not? Why was I absorbing light and being taught, while he was hunkering down in misery and darkness? I was told that the reason was willingness."
Both the above accounts seem to confirm Howard Storm's experience and I believe that all three books have something to offer folk from a range of religious and spiritual backgrounds, whether coming from a Christian perspective or from a "your thoughts/ focus determines your reality" point of view.

A Near-Death Experience in Paris

Howard Storm's "My Descent into Death" is a compelling read. It will only take you a few hours to read and it has many insights that resonate with biblical teachings. The story begins with Howard Storm in Paris needing immediate surgery to save his life. However it seems that the surgeons were not available to help him and he was left to suffer in great pain until he finally died and experienced the horrors of what seemed like hell.
This hell however did not have fire it was just total darkness where voices told him to follow them as they tried to destroy him. Howard realizes he is in a very bad situation and almost instantly calls on Jesus to save him. This is amazing because he is an atheist.
Miraculously he is taken away from hell into a more heavenly place. While he doesn't describe heaven in detail or hell for that matter what makes this book enjoyable to read is all the questions he asks Jesus and the angels and how they respond. I noticed that most of the answers were similar to those I'd read before in other books. This book states that the only way to heaven is by a belief in Jesus Christ. However this book also states that it doesn't matter which religion you believe in as long as it brings you closer to God. It is obvious that you can believe in Jesus Christ no matter what your religious upbringing. So that was the only thing that made me question this book.
I felt that this book was very intelligently written and it seems that from the time Howard Storm had the near-death experience to the time he wrote the book he had become very familiar with the Bible's teachings. In this way he was able to communicate what he learned in a very fluid fashion. This book is very easy to read and will interest anyone who has questions about the beyond.

Frightening In Its Implications

I found this book to be very interesting. I recommend it to people who are interested in those deeper philosophical questions.
The first few chapters talk about former atheist Howard Storm's unexpected death and the actual experience in that hellish realm. It's very interesting because he still had his senses like sight, hearing, smell, etc.. In fact his senses were much more acute in the spirit world. He was I think experiencing all of this in his spiritual body while his physical body was lying near death in the hospital bed.
Howard felt that the creatures he encountered in that other world had been human beings at one time but they had now evolved into something else. He felt that he had a choice to become one of them and join their gang on a one way journey.
People like Jeffrey Dahmer would appear to be reflections of those creatures in this world. In fact I suspect the true explanations for the behaviour of people like Dahmer will not be found in psychology. It will be found in the spirit world.
The rest of the book tells how God rescued Howard from hell, what he found out during a visit to 'heaven', and how all of this affected his life and thoughts when he got back to the land of the living. When he got back Howard had a much different perspective about life and he was glad to be back. That's what's so frightening about all of this. How close did he come to never making it back ?
Howard's painting on the cover shows the scene where God came and rescued him. There's some other paintings in the book including the sexual assault down in hell.
Or let me clarify Howard felt he only reached the gates of hell as opposed to going into the depths of hell from which point there is probably no chance of return. Or even if someone did return from the depths of hell they would probbaly be insane for the rest of their life.
In fact Howard says he has spent many years trying to forget some of the details of exactly what happened to him down there.
While in heaven Howard was able to ask Christ and the angels many philosophical questions such as why did the two world wars have to happen, 'what about atheism', and many other interesting things.
Since his return Howard has had some strange experiences such as angels appearing to him in the hospital, etc.. Many people probably have these experiences but they don't realize it at first.
Howard suggests that after an eternity in hell the soul can ultimately be 'annihilated' which I guess means the individual would no longer exist. This is consistent with the bible where it says "Fear Him who can destroy the soul in hell.". However Howard doesn't say how long this annihilation process can take.
Atheists don't believe in life after death. Perhaps for them this can become a self fulfulling prophecy if Howard's annihilation idea is true.
Howard Storm was no Jeffrey Dahmer. He was no Hitler. His great sin was only indifference to God and a belief in materialism, success, and self sufficiency. Perhaps this is all that's required for someone to lose their soul. That's the message of this book.
