A fascinating tale of a bungled fraud

A must read for those who are into a comically inept attempt at blackmailing the Greek government into revoking the constitution and taking early retirement. How the self-proposed perpetrators even hoped to pull this off is beyond the wildest imagination of any person subscribing to basic sanity. The purported role of international bills of exchange is distorted to form the use of US Treasury bonds which are somehow promoted by an obscure custodial bank in Canada albeit allegedly endorsed by President Obama himself. A stunning figure of US$600 billion in such "bonds" is supposedly meant to curiously pay off the Greek national debt in full. The players include a certain Soras, said to be a trillionaire (although he apparently resides in the port city of Patras in Greece rather than the marina resort principality of Monaco in the south of France), and the all important Lambrakis, said to be a medical practitioner in the borough of Queens, New York, in the USA, with a practice apparently geared to securing disability benefits for a great number of its patients. If this brief review does not compel one to acquire a copy of this well researched and delightfully amusing literary spectacle, one might be somewhat challenged to find another such entertaining comedy that would take one on a substantive fantasy trip.

Everything you wanted to know about the mastermind behind the "600 billion" scheme

If you were curious about the man behind this whole deal
with the 600 billion dollar offer to buy Greece's national
debt, then this is the book to read!
It is the only book I found on the subject that had actual
original research (in addition to what can be found online)
and it solved many of my questions about how this scheme
originated.
Of course, all this extensive coverage comes at the
price of being a little "too detailed" (even somewhat
boring) to read "cover to cover" and the absence of
an index makes it hard to refer to this book to refresh
your memory on the facts.
All in all though, if you are looking for detailed
background information on Lambrakis, this book is
highly recommended!

A Pig's Tail

When looking at the entirety of this incredible story, the reader must keep reminding themselves that it is fundamentally true, that this really happened. I confess to be entirely ignorant of the details learned in this book, Dr. Lambrakis, etc., and this story was brought to my attention in a round about way not pertinent to this review. Briefly, if you have an interest in the ins and outs of an incredibly complex story involving the Greek national debt and real-life characters involved in a merry-go-round of billions, you'll find the story interesting and entertaining to say the least. Some of the prose is difficult to get through, but it's worth the effort.
